2. General Principle
Whister is a camera app for photos and videos with configurable overlays. The app does not create user accounts and does not operate its own server for storing or analyzing personal app data.
3. Camera and Microphone
Whister uses the camera to capture photos and videos. The microphone is used only for video recordings. Captures are processed locally and are saved to the photo library only when you trigger the related action.
4. Photo Library
Whister uses limited add-only access to save photos and videos to your photo library. The app does not read your photo library and uses this permission only to save captures created by the app.
5. Location, Address, Altitude, and Weather
If location details are used in an overlay, Whister asks for location access while the app is in use. Your location can be used to display address, altitude, and weather information.
For weather data, Whister may send coordinates to external weather services, in particular Open-Meteo and MET Norway. These requests are used only to retrieve current weather information for the overlay. We do not store or analyze this location data on our own servers.
6. Steps and Motion Data
If you use the steps feature, Whister reads today's step count from motion data through Apple Core Motion. Whister does not send this motion data to us or to our own servers. The step count is used only for the optional overlay.
7. Word of the Day
The Word of the Day is selected from a word list included in the app. No server request is required for this feature.
8. Instagram Sharing and Pasteboard
The Instagram sharing feature is available exclusively for the Word of the Day template. When you actively use this feature, Whister can save the generated image to the photo library, copy a caption with hashtags to the pasteboard, and open Instagram. The related sharing hint can be disabled in the app and re-enabled in setup.
Whister does not read unrelated pasteboard content. Instagram's own privacy policy applies to the use of Instagram.
9. App Settings
Whister stores app settings such as app language, selected template, visible overlay details, colors, and hint preferences locally on your device.
10. Sharing With Third Parties
We do not receive or share personal app data. External services are used only when a feature requires them, for example weather requests or the user-initiated opening of Instagram.
11. Your Rights
You have the right to request access, correction, deletion, and restriction of processing of your personal data. Because Whister does not operate user accounts and generally processes app data locally, you can remove locally stored data by deleting the app or resetting app settings.
